They did so with derision.

People are catching onto the snide remarks about "normal" people who either willingly or unwillingly get involved. By "normal" I mean maybe they didn't go to an Ivy League school and gained favor with leftist professors at those institutions who then wrote glowing recommendations to Ivy League grad schools.

It's always a truism of the left to do these things: Republicans are not "enlightened." They did it with Reagan, he's just some doddling old actor. Sarah Palin, she's went to 3 or 4 schools, and is the governor of (to them) a nothing state.

Now look, I'm not going to deny that Ivy League looks good on a resume, but I went to a good school as well. What does it mean. It means at 18 I was a high achiever, had good contacts and recommendations, parents who gave to a board, what?

What does it mean when you're 45 and running for a Senate seat? Or President? That you were fortunate as a kid?

People want to be led, not ruled. There is no oligarchy of smart people that won't eventually fall under the weight of their own self-importance. The GOP made this mistake in 2006.

Until folks like Kerry get that through their skulls, this backlash will continue.

The second is that they want to deal with the world as they think it should be rather than the way it actually operates. They think they can control the morality and wants of man. "Why are people greedy." "Why are they power hungry" "Why are they in it for themselves." They live in a world where you can negotiate with foreign powers who are not rational. They project weakness and will get walked all over every time.

Oddly enough, man can't provide moral order but a higher power can, which they've all but tried to eliminate from any discussion. I'm no big God person, but it has a purpose in order and "civilizing" our base wants. You can't "kill" religion and then wonder why people won't be good, there's no higher reward for it other than the bullshit collectivist theory of helping your fellow man sate his base wants.

If you are going to be secular, profit motive invests in society, collectivism invests in man, and that will always be a bad investment.

Look, most people don't want health care changed, they want the process to get it paid for easier. The issue here is whether a very vocal minority has earned the right to tell us to shut up and like it while they do what they want.

Instead of justifying ourselves when accusations are made, and trying to sweet talk the people making said accusations (see also "Compassionate Conservatism" and Dubya/McCain) why not have enough spine to tell people they're wrong or moronic.

When a New York Times tells us we need less Rush Limbaughs tell them to mind their own damn business, we'll take care of what we need in house.

Nothing made my blood boil more than when Jon Stewart went on Crossfire and told Tucker Carlson he was bad for America. Watch it again. Sure he went on to tell both Carlson and Obama-flak Paul Begala that "they" were bad, but all his attacks came on the conservative side of the fence. Then Stewart, hailed as a hero by the media, went back to being bad for America and having liberal apologist after liberal apologist.

Here is my call to Conservative pundits--Have some damn pride instead of going Garafalo and being the poster child for self-loathing dumbassery. Alan Colmes had the stones to move on from being the token liberal at Fox News, same with Glenn Beck being the token conservative at CNN's Headline News.

I know we all want to be on television, and in this economy, jobs are hard to come by, but damn it, you being the semi-lucid voice in front of the angry mob with pitchforks and torches and then not placating them by being wishy-washy does no good.

I realize Frum and his ilk are trying to accentuate the positives and eliminate the negatives, but so are Rush and Coulter. Both are opposite sides of the same coin. The problem is, Frum is fighting the battle on terms of what liberals tell him are bad about conservatism. It's a losing fight, no matter what we do we will not please people who don't deal in logic or reality, so why try and convince people that hate us that we're good people?

Battered wives rarely go back to a uncertain marriage and have things get better. Let's have some pride and establish ourselves on our terms.

EJ Dionne of the WaPo asks why Rush doesn't run

EJ Dionne must have been hard up for a topic this week, I'm guessing he wanted a change from the "How Do I Love Thee Obama" columns he had been writing to doing what liberal Democrats must do when their policies don't work -- go after the people criticizing them for not working, thereby hoping to induce silence.

This is common among politicians, but particularly big government liberals-- that if you can somehow shut down criticism of a big government failure that no one will know it's not working. Sort of like that tree in the forest no one can hear.

First of all, let's point out something, Rush Limbaugh doesn't want to be head of the GOP. In fact, he satirized people trying to put him on a pedestal at his speech with his opening joke about God thinking he's Rush Limbaugh.

Also, let's state a fact: CPAC is not the GOP, it is very influential, it has a lot of overlap, and a lot of similar interests. The only reason that sites like DailyKos and Huffington Post are confused with liberal intelligensia is that there are so few conservative Democrats left, because they were drummed out of the party by those same elements.

Ironically enough, it worked for the Democrats, and it looks as if that's what CPAC is trying to do with liberal Republicans, or whatever David Brooks is in his mind.

But more to the point of Dionne:

When Rush Limbaugh explained to the Conservative Political Action Conference last Saturday that he wants President Obama to fail for ideological reasons, CNN gave old Rush the same treatment as a president or presidential candidate. For minute after minute after minute, there he was, speaking live, as if his predictable ranting constituted news. Perhaps I missed it, but I don’t recall any liberal talk show host or blogger getting that kind of treatment on the network. So will someone please explain to me why so many on the right claim that CNN is a “liberal” network? Is CNN chasing the Fox News crowd?

Well, EJ, there are a few reasons:
1) Saturday is a slow news day
2) Rush is a nationally syndicated talk show host, there are no highly rated syndicated liberal talk show hosts, and even if you consider Ed Schultz "popular"...he doesn't have near the Q rating of Rush.
3) All of those pundits and bloggers and talk show hosts work for CNN's competiton, of course they're not going to give them time.

This seems to be one of those "Hey Rush, you think you're so great, why not run for office" hack pieces that miss the point of powerful voices of opposition. No one is asking Keith Olbermann, John Stewart (although technically Stewart claims to be an entertainer even though he's crossed over into his own self-made "Bad for America" catergory) or any other number of liberally biased newsmen, journalists, pundits, commentators, gadflies, comedians, or whatever the hell label they want into running for office.

It almost seems like liberal journalists and columnists view conservatism as an anamoly rather than a legitimate point of view.

"Holy crap, there's a conservative who's popular...he should run for office" and in the back of his mind is thinking "that way I have less competition to get my oh-so-enlightened message through."

It's a very simple formula for Dionne--if Rush runs, he gets discredited enough by the liberal media to the point where Rush can no longer be an influence in the media (if he lost).

Personally, I think Rush would be smart enough to run for lower offices first, gain some experience and spend some time in those positions before jumping right into a situation where he'd be in over his head, even if his election were of a historic nature. Sound familiar?

More than likely, it should be considered by Dionne, that much like his position, Rush is perfectly happy where he is, flinging bombs from the sidelines without the stress or responsibility for higher office and occasionally having to deal with snarky responses by nameless internet types who don't feel the same way.

Why would Rush want the pay cut or the reduction in influence? Isn't that why Barry continues to campaign when he already has the job, because he's far more influential and seen in a positive light when he doesn't have to govern, since it is so overwhelming?
